The Ins and Outs of Cock Rings

In J. R. R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” we learnt about the most powerful artefact ever created - the one ring to rule them all. Well, today we are going to learn about another all mighty artefact but instead of the finger - this ring was made for the penis.

The Ins and Outs of Cock RingsThe Ins and Outs of Cock Rings

Cock rings, also known as penis rings or stamina rings, are erection enhancers designed to make a penis temporarily harder and bigger - keeping it so for longer. This marvellous ring is worn at the base of the penis or behind the testicles and works its magic by constricting blood flow from leaving the shaft of the penis. This in turn creates sensations of tightness which most men find pleasurable. When ejaculation is finally reached, the orgasm is heightened as the sudden release of pressure from keeping the blood flow in one area makes the nerves incredibly sensitive. The cock ring has quickly established itself as one of the most popular sex toys for straight and gay men and rightly so. Its fuss free ability to enhance erections and lead to greater sexual experiences for a man and his partner makes this clever gadget most appealing.

Cock rings can be used with a partner or solo. But a word of caution: just because the ladies don’t have the goods to wear one, know that your penis ring is NOT safe around them. They may just claim it as their own - and who could blame them? Not only does it give their guys firmer and longer lasting erections, but it also offers some serious clitoral stimulation. So boys - go on and ring her bell (I couldn’t help it). She’ll love you for it, believe me!

But before you rush off to add this nifty thing to your shopping cart, you should know the ins and outs of cock rings.

Who would wear one?

  • Men seeking to achieve harder and bigger erections;
  • Men with erectile dysfunction;
  • Men wishing to achieve longer stamina;
  • Men pursuing pleasure and sensational sex; and
  • Men wanting to please their female partner with clitoral stimulation.

How do you put on a cock ring?

No your partner does not get down on bended knee and declaring their love for you, slide the cock ring on your baby maker. Although that doesn’t sound so bad…

Lets first examine the engineering of this apt sex toy. The most common shape of a cock ring is circular in design, although some come in a tie shape so that the tightness around the penis can be adjusted.

Check out the Adonis Caesar Silicone Penis Ring for example.

Some cock rings are adjustable in size, whilst others take on a one size fits all approach. So what does that mean exactly?

Non-adjustable rings should be put on a flaccid penis. Place the ring under the testicles and insert your family jewels through, one at a time. Pull the penis through the ring, head goes in first, making sure it feels comfortable. The ring should be as close to your body as it possibly can be. Once the ring is in place, the penis will rise to the occasion and your cock ring will feel tighter. Reverse these steps to remove the non-adjustable ring from a flaccid penis.

Adjustable rings can be put on at any point during an erection by stretching the ring so that it fits snuggly around the base of the penis or behind the testicles - entirely up to you. As with the non-adjustable ring, once your penis is hard the cock ring will feel tight around it. When removing the adjustable ring, simply stretch the ring to slip it off.

If you are having trouble fitting on the ring, use a water based lubricant on the inside of the cock ring - this will definitely help and not damage the material of the ring.

If you haven’t tended to your hedges for some time, be cautious not to tug on your pubic hair when putting on or taking off your cock ring.

Now the question all you guys are dying to ask - how does it feel to wear one? Sensation ranges from slight to profound pressure with a possible feeling of minor discomfort which is soon forgotten once your nether region is full and ready to pump. Or so that’s what the boys tell me.

How long do you leave it on?

An interesting fact to ponder on is that on some farms, lambs have rubber rings tightened around their tails so that they will wither and drop off (the tails - not the lambs). Does that answer the question of how long you should wear your cock ring for?

Welcome to the golden rule of cock rings! Unless you’re wanting to cause temporary or permanent nerve damage to your penis, you shouldn’t wear a cock ring for longer than 20 minutes at a time. If you are a novice to the cock ring game, try it on for 5 - 10 min to ensure it’s not too tight. Should pain or discomfort occur, remove the ring as soon as possible. If your penis becomes numb, cold or white, remove the cock ring immediately and seek medical attention. Your penis should increase in size somewhat, but if you are experiencing pronounced swelling, remove the cock ring instantly.

Leaving a cock ring on all night can cause damage to erectile tissue or even priapism which is an erection that lasts for more than four hours (not as good as it sounds gents - it’s a painful unwanted erection). This occurs when the blood in the penis becomes trapped. It is a medical emergency and if not treated promptly can result in scarring and erectile dysfunction. So whatever you do - don’t fall asleep with it on. Just think of the poor lamb’s withered little tail. Yikes!

If you are on blood thinning medication or suffer from erectile dysfunction, blood clotting disorders or peripheral vascular or nerve diseases, please consult your doctor before using a cock ring.

So what size are you?

Penises come in a colourful array of different shapes and sizes and so do cock rings. To obtain your size (your girth) you will need a measuring tape, a piece of string or something similar. Using the measuring tape or piece of string, wrap it around the very base of your erect penis. This will give you your circumference. If your gonads don’t like being left behind, wrap the measuring tape or string behind the testicles while erect. Make sure you are measuring the area as close to your body as you possibly can. This will give you the circumference if you plan on including your testicles when using the cock ring.

But which ring is the right ring?

There are several different types of cock rings. You could go for a clean and simple design or you could opt for the fancy add ons such as special anal probing attachments made to simultaneously pleasure your prostate like the Anal Fantasy Ass Kicker With Cockring. Some cock rings have dual bullets - one for your penis and one for your boys. Remote controlled rings, penis cage rings, weighted rings, textured bumps and humps for clitoral stimulation - the options are limitless. However, there are 4 types of ring designs and any other fancy add ons are merely that. So let’s explore the 4 design types: -

The Adjustable Ring

  • Ideal for beginners as it is easy to put on and take off;
  • Offer versatility as it can be worn at the base of the penis or behind the testicles;
  • Most are made from rawhide or leather straps; and
  • Not merely for newcomers to the cock ring game - intermediaries and cock ring gurus still enjoy using adjustable rings as they offer the ability to control the tightness and pressure.

Over at our store we love the Silicone Stud Lasso Cock Ring.

The Non-Adjustable Ring

  • Ideal for penis ring pros as they offer extra weight and firmness;
  • Made from metal, stainless steel, wood or any other hard non-pliable material;
  • Must have exact measurements;
  • Becoming popular as a fashionable accessory for their aesthetic look and hard feel;
  • Cool metal adds extra pleasure as it feels good against the skin - it also heats up to body temperature quickly; and
  • Some are designed for shaft only use but this is not always the case - be sure to read the packaging before you try squeezing your whole package in there.

A popular non-adjustable ring is the Sex & Mischief Nitrile Cock Ring Pack.

The O Ring

  • Ideal for beginners as they are easy to slip on and remove;
  • It is essentially a stretchy ring usually made out of rubber, silicon or nitrite;
  • Offer versatility as it can be stretched out to be worn at the base of the penis or behind the testicles;
  • Inexpensive;
  • Circumference of the shaft should be marginally bigger than the o ring; and
  • Precise measurements not needed as ring stretches out and fits a variety of penis sizes.

An O ring our customers boast about is the Screaming O The RingO Pro LG.

The Vibrating Ring

  • An adjustable or O cock ring which is attached to a vibrating bullet;
  • Ideal for couples (hetero or homosexual) as it offers some major stimulation for her clitoris or his scrotum; and
  • Not merely for couples - vibrating features offers buzzing orgasms even for solo play especially if placed on different positions around the scortum for extra sensations.

Certain sex positions can create heightened buzzing stimulation for your partner’s genitals, so be sure to whip out your Karma Sutra and study up on your sex moves. Positions that create the most contact between your pelvises will be the most pleasuring for you and your play mate. Cowgirl gives the lady most control of speed and pressure as she is in charge of how the bullet sits against her clitoris and vulva. Missionary position allows for constant vibration on both you and your partner, ensuring you both take advantage of the buzzy sensation. Doggy works exceptionally well also as the vibrating feature stimulates your partner’s anus.

We know many people buzz with excitement when it comes to the NU Sensuelle 15 Function Remote Control Bullet Ring.

Bypass using cock ring substitutes such as rubber bands as they are exactly that - a substitute and a very poor one at that, which could end with you trying to explain a very awkward situation to the emergency nurse. We also recommend you clean your cock ring with mild soap or non-alcoholic anti-bacterial cleaner after each use. So dear reader there you have it - the ins and outs of cock rings. Whether you’re using it as a sex toy to enhance the hardness and size of your penis, or as a sex health benefit for erectile dysfunction - there is much fun to be had with this clever invention which offers a wide variety of play. If you’ve never experienced the cock ring before, remember that you can’t hurt yourself. It’s easy to use and safe just be sure to follow the instructions. Trust me your privy parts and your partner will thank me.

This was a good overview. I've never tried one even though a few mates told me to. It's useful to have read all this first. Hope I don't forget the golden rule and leave it on too long and have a withered penis at the end of it!

Thanks David. If you follow the instructions on the packaging, and advice posted here, you really can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Hi Maggie May,

I would like to say, I wear cock rings. I have at least 50 and I have found out that the silicone rings are the best. I stack 3 or4 around my cock and balls and also a few around just my balls and it will keep my cock hard for hours.

I've been using cock ring for years and you do have to be careful but if you get the right size and they stretch then you can leave them on as long as you as masturbating but don't fall asleep and right after you ejaculate , take them off.
